Mo’s Crib PVC Recycling is not a new concept for us. It has always been at the heart of who we are. This year, however, we are choosing to speak louder about the work we have already done and the responsibility we carry moving forward.
Since inception, Mo’s Crib has saved over 10 000 tons of plastic waste from landfill. At the centre of this impact is one of the least recycled plastics in the world, PVC. Discarded PVC water pipes are often overlooked in global recycling systems due to their complexity and cost of processing. We saw opportunity where others saw waste.
Today, we are one of the only manufacturers in the world transforming PVC water pipes into homeware. More specifically, we are the only manufacturer turning recycled PVC into woven baskets at scale. What once lay buried in landfills now lives in homes across more than 15 international markets.
But this story is bigger than product. It is about systems change.
PVC is widely used in construction and infrastructure, yet globally it remains one of the least recycled plastic materials. By collecting discarded pipes from landfills and construction sites, cleaning them, processing them and transforming them into durable design led pieces, we are extending the lifecycle of a material that would otherwise contribute to environmental degradation.
The environmental impact is measurable. Diverting over 10 000 tons of plastic waste reduces landfill pressure, lowers carbon emissions linked to virgin plastic production and supports the transition toward a circular economy. Every basket woven represents material kept in circulation and demand reduced for new plastic production.
The social impact is equally powerful.
Circular manufacturing at Mo’s Crib has enabled us to create over 300 jobs across Africa, with 88 percent of those roles held by women. Sustainability is not only about protecting the planet. It is about building inclusive economies. By turning waste into value, we have created income opportunities, skills development pathways and long term employment within communities that need it most.
This year, our focus is growth with intention.
We are committed to increasing the volume of PVC waste we recycle annually. We have seen firsthand what this model can do for the earth and for the people behind the production. Scaling our recycling capacity means reducing more waste, lowering more emissions and creating even more jobs.
We are also investing in improved systems and machinery to increase efficiency, expand product categories and strengthen our circular supply chain. Our vision is to move from being pioneers in PVC basket production to becoming leaders in recycled PVC homeware manufacturing more broadly.
Sustainability is no longer a trend. It is an imperative.
The global economy is still largely linear. Materials are extracted, produced, consumed and discarded. At Mo’s Crib, we believe in redesigning that system. Waste must become resource. Communities must benefit from climate solutions. Manufacturing must evolve.
We have proven that a business rooted in circularity can compete globally. Our products are stocked by international retailers and exported to markets across North America, Europe and beyond. This shows that sustainability and commercial success are not opposites. They are partners.
As we move forward this year, our commitment is simple. Recycle more. Waste less. Create more jobs. Build a greener manufacturing future from Africa to the world.
Mo’s Crib PVC Recycling is not just what we do. It is who we are becoming at scale.
